Writer's Workshops

Professional writer and editor Bill Shepson is available for teaching two intensive workshops for beginning to intermediate writers—a perfect complement to any writer's conference. Bill has, in fact, taught these workshops at writer's conferences for years with effective results.

Each workshop may be presented in a one- or two-hour format, depending on the level of presenter/audience-participation and Question/Answer time desired. The workshops are standalone, but are especially effective when presented together at a conference—for example, in two consecutive sessions.

Consultation sessions are an additional offering that may be provided (almost as a third workshop). In these sessions, Bill Shepson will spend one half-hour with a writer, reviewing any project he or she presents, providing input, feedback and suggestions for improvement.

As a group, the two workshops and consultation sessions make a strong component of any writer's conference you may be organizing—whether there will be multiple presenters at your event, or simply the services we may provide.

Workshop #1:
Organizing Your Story
Planning and organizing your writing project up front will make all the difference in its impact on the reader. In this workshop, we take a close look at six practical things you can do at the inception of your project that will make your writing shine. Many real-life examples of these techniques in practice are shown to illustrate the concepts involved. Workshop participants will come away with lists of questions to ask themselves as they consider writing projects, and will learn skills to organizing an outline for a well-rounded story.

Workshop #2:
Enhancing the Impact of Your Writing
Strong writing always comprises five elements. In this workshop, we look closely at these five elements and study real-life examples of how these may be implemented in one's own writing. Workshop attendees will take away from this session many techniques they can put into practice immediately that will cause their writing to have a greater impact on those who read their stories.

Consultation Sessions:
Do you have a book proposal you're considering pitching an agent or publishing house? A book you've written for which you want feedback? An article you want evaluated before you send it to a magazine editor? In a consultation session, you may spend one half-hour with editorial expert Bill Shepson, who will review any project you present and provide input, feedback and suggestions for improvement.
